A Fishers man has been convicted of multiple felonies, including rape and kidnapping, concerning a harrowing incident in December last year. According to FOX59, Akeenen Anton Lamar Hunt was found guilty on July 19 of 15 felony counts after a four-day jury trial. The charges against Hunt included a Level 3 felony for rape, Level 2 felonies for attempting to commit kidnapping while hijacking a vehicle, as well as several Level 6 felonies encompassing kidnapping, criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, domestic battery in violation of a no-contact order, criminal confinement, and intimidation with the threat to commit a forcible felony.

In the early morning hours of December 13, 2023, Greenfield police launched an investigation found an abandoned cell phone and car parts in a parking lot which led them to two damaged vehicles. As reported by WISH-TV, these belonged to Hunt and the victim. The investigation unfolded after law enforcement was dispatched to a welfare check at a residence, following a crash the victim was involved in.

The sequence of events, as described by CBS4 Indy, included Hunt forcefully entering the victim's home after she had moved to Texas to escape their previous relationship and his history of domestic violence. After calling her on December 12, Hunt kicked down the home's door the next day, prompting the victim to hide and eventually escape to a nearby Walmart. Hunt discovered her there and proceeded to ram his vehicle into hers multiple times.

The Greenfield Police Department pieced together the case, confirming ownership of the damaged vehicles and surveilling footage of the altercation, with the victim managing four days to avoid Hunt, subsequently finding herself in the throes of his wrath after returning to Hancock County. Trials as these serve as somber reminders of the destructive tendrils that domestic violence can cast, pulling victims back into harrowing confrontations even as they seek refuge in distances as vast as state lines.
