A high-speed chase unfolded on Memphis highways this past weekend, concluding with five individuals in custody. The Memphis Police Department (MPD) reported that the incident began when officers located a stolen vehicle at around 2 p.m. on the 1700 block of Getwell Road. The car was believed to be linked to several robberies. According to Action News 5, authorities confirmed that stop sticks were used in an attempt to halt the vehicle which subsequently fled, prompting a police pursuit.

The chase ensued onto Interstate 240, where things took a dangerous turn. The suspects tried to evade the police by driving into oncoming traffic leading officers to abruptly discontinue the chase. FOX13 Memphis detailed how the vehicle then exited the interstate at Getwell, sideswiped another car, and came to a stop. Four suspects fled on foot while one remained in the vehicle and was taken into custody.

The MPD successfully apprehended all suspects with the assistance of K9 and Aviation units. This group included three teens and two adults, as documented by the MPD. Moreover, during the course of the pursuit and subsequent foot chase, one officer and two juveniles sustained non-critical injuries. They were transported to Le Bonheur for treatment. As Local Memphis reported, "one juvenile suspect, was transported to Le Bonheur non-critical from an injury sustained during the foot pursuit," and "one juvenile was transported to Le Bonheur non-critical for a medical issue unrelated to the pursuit."

At this time, charges have yet to be officially filed against the individuals, and MPD has declared this to be an ongoing investigation.
