On Monday, Jerry Dorisme faced a Florida court in complete silence, offering no words as he was formally charged with the first-degree felony murder of 13-year-old Rose Dieujuste, reports say a sudden and brutal act that snatched away an innocent life on the Fourth of July. Dorisme, 28, stood before the judge, stoic and unmoving, while his public defender spoke on his behalf. Dorisme is also facing multiple charges including battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting an officer without violence, which, according to an earlier encounter, included deputies writing that he was "rambling about being chased by a female named 'Cat'" and "rambling about not wanting to talk to the Russians" before an act of violence against the officers ensued, as reported by WESH.
According to WESH, Dorisme, having previously been involuntarily committed to a mental health facility under the Baker Act, faces no bond for the murder charge related to the tragic death of Dieujuste, whose body was discovered in her apartment complex's utility closet after a senseless attack marked by signs of trauma. Investigators report having found the young girl barely alive tragically too late to save her from the wounds that would end her young life. The judge ordered Dorisme to have no contact with the victim's family or witnesses and banned him from possessing weapons, with a pretrial detention hearing set for July 19.
Rose Dieujuste was last seen heading towards a friend's apartment within the Palmetto Lakeside apartments, her personal belongings were later found by the friend, who raised an alarm, her cousin Dieuriper Colin said in a statement, as per FOX 35 News. A frantic search by Colin and Rose's brother ultimately led to the grim discovery of Rose in a utility closet, stabbed and partially naked.
The capture of Dorisme followed a review of surveillance footage around the apartment complex that later showed him purchasing the kitchen knife believed to have been used in the murder; this purchase occurred just minutes before Dorisme followed Rose into the complex.
