Four individuals have been indicted in an alleged scheme to smuggle drugs into the Downtown Detention Center jail in Nashville, as investigations continue to unearth the intricacies of this crime. Metro Nashville Police, in collaboration with the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office, conducted an extensive six-month probe into the trafficking operations that seemingly thrived within the walls designed to confine lawbreakers.

Central to this operation was 28-year-old Devin Popejoy who, acting under the guidance of Emmanuel Webb – a 30-year-old detainee awaiting trial for first-degree murder, orchestrated the smuggling of methamphetamine and fentanyl into the jail. Running to the influential pull of Webb, "Popejoy is alleged to have set up drug-related telephone conference calls between Webb and third parties during his jailhouse calls to her," police said, in a statement obtained by WSMV.

The scheme landed Popejoy behind bars in Vermont, where she was recently arrested and dubbed a fugitive from Tennessee. Surprisingly, she was permitted to post bond – a decision which now sees her facing extradition to Tennessee. Further evidence of the drug ring was uncovered during cell searches at the facility, where officials found an array of narcotics, including liquid meth and papers soaked in the same substance, alongside crystal meth and fentanyl, as reported by FOX 17.

Alongside Popejoy, the Webb of indictments ensnared two inmates: Anthony Farr Jr., 24, serving six years for kidnapping and aggravated assault, and Roderick Rogers Jr., 24, incarcerated for a probation violation connected to an assault against a first responder – each facing charges for meth and fentanyl possession and having contraband in a penal institution. Webb himself is charged with one count of felony meth possession and one count of felony fentanyl possession, as detailed by WKRN.
