An officer-involved shooting in Fulton County is now under investigation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), after an incident in Atlanta resulted in 18-year-old Travon Yarbrough being shot and wounded. The GBI was called in at the request of the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office to look into the details of the shooting. According to the official statement from the GBI, Yarbrough, who is from Atlanta, is now in stable condition and no deputies were reported injured during the confrontation.
The series of events began when a deputy with the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office FAST Unit saw a vehicle, later found to be stolen, commit a traffic violation on Harwell Road NW. The deputy tried to stop the car, but Yarbrough, the driver, chose to quickly drive off. The chase ended as Yarbrough's vehicle crashed on Delmar Lane NW, after which he fled on foot. When deputies caught up with Yarbrough, he reportedly "pulled a pistol from his clothing and a deputy fired one round," hitting him. Despite the injury, Yarbrough managed to continue to run until found by authorities in a backyard of a nearby street, with a firearm discovered near where the incident took place.
Officers at the scene provided medical assistance to Yarbrough before he was transported to a local hospital for further treatment.
