On May 31, a 10-year-old girl was confronted by a man in the parking lot as she was taking out the trash and, according to WSVN, the man exposed himself upon exiting his vehicle before trying to grab her.
The young girl managed to evade his grasp and sought refuge in a playground area while the suspect subsequently fled the scene in an older model, cream or beige 4-door sedan that might be a Toyota; he was last spotted driving westbound on NE 8th St where the situation unfolded, the quick thinking of the girl allowed her to escape unharmed and the man at large signifies an ongoing threat.
Authorities have released a sketch of the suspect in hopes that the community can assist in his apprehension. Described as a Black male, with a dark complexion and short hair, aged between 40 and 50, standing approximately 5’9″ to 5’10” and weighing 150-175 pounds, the Homestead Police are urging anyone with information to come forward. In a detailed account by the victim to the police, the suspect got out of his vehicle with his pants unbuttoned and with indecent exposure.
Local10 reports that after she noticed the man, he began walking towards her in what felt like slow motion the girl's instincts kicked in allowing her to slip away, avoid his outstretched arms, and ultimately find a hiding spot on the playground; following the harrowing encounter, the man hastily departed in his vehicle, leaving the area disturbed yet thankful for the child's safety.
The Homestead Police Department has made a public appeal for assistance, stating, "Your vigilance and cooperation can make a significant difference in maintaining the safety and security of our neighborhoods," recognizing the community's integral role in solving cases.
