Commuters on I-680 northbound were met with unexpected delays this morning when two big rigs collided near Livorna Road in Contra Costa County. The California Highway Patrol reported the crash happened around 4:09 am, causing all northbound lanes to be blocked. According to the CHP Contra Costa, a big white rig jackknifed after the driver swerved to avoid an animal on the freeway, hitting the center divider and stopping traffic.
Following the initial accident, a second big rig crashed into the jackknifed truck as the driver tried to stop. The CHP has confirmed that no injuries were reported from the incident.
