
Tragedy struck on the eve of Independence Day as a shooting in Antioch claimed the life of a 58-year-old man and critically injured a 44-year-old woman. According to the Antioch Police Department's press release, the incident occurred on the 1600 block of Vineyard Drive shortly before midnight yesterday.
Responding to reports of a shooting near the vineyards, Antioch Police discovered the male victim with multiple gunshot wounds. Despite immediate medical aid rendered by the officers and subsequent care by the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. The second victim, a female, sought help at Sutter Delta Medical Hospital with at least one gunshot wound and was later transported to John Muir Medical Center Walnut Creek in a critical condition.
The Investigations Bureau of Antioch Police Department, comprised of Crime Scene Investigators and detectives from the Violent Crimes Unit, has taken charge of an investigation. The suspect remains unknown, and the incident is being treated as an isolated event, reportedly posing no immediate threat to the surrounding community.
