An Indianapolis man, identified as Sean Brown, 38, has been taken into custody following a harrowing incident at a local youth soccer match. Brown is facing serious charges including intimidation with a deadly weapon and criminal recklessness after he allegedly pointed a rifle at players and spectators. This tumultuous event unfolded on the west side of Indianapolis at the soccer fields located on Haugh Street, as reported by WRTV.
According to the authorities, the situation escalated rapidly after Brown's son was accidentally kicked during the game. Witnesses claim Brown became irate, proceeded to swiftly go back to his car to retrieve a rifle, and then pointed it toward the young players and the assembled crowd. In a statement obtained by WISH-TV, one witness recounted Brown's threatening behavior, including shouting that the juvenile who kicked his son was "too old to be playing here" and warning that they were "going to pay."
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded to Max Bahr Park shortly after 7 p.m. following reports of an armed individual menacing people attending the game. Upon police arrival, a cooperative Brown was quickly handcuffed and a loaded AR10 rifle was discovered on the seat of his gold Chevrolet Malibu. FOX59 noted that, aside from the new charges levied against him, Brown also had an outstanding warrant related to an intoxicated driving endangerment.
Brown's actions have left the community shaken, with concerns about the prevalence of firearms at family and sporting events coming starkly to the fore. Along with the aforementioned charges, the court documents revealed that he is accused of not just pointing the firearm at the juvenile, but also at the entire crowd, a detail emphasized by yet another witness account. "Brown didn’t just point the rifle at his son but the crowd as well," a father of one of the soccer players told WISH-TV. The case is ongoing and expected to move through the judicial process in the coming weeks.
