Early Friday morning tragedy struck Barrett Parkway in Kennesaw, when a serious vehicle crash claimed the life of a young woman. According to the FOX 5 Atlanta report, a 20-year-old Kennesaw resident named Amy Wamweya was involved in a single-car accident that resulted in her death.

The crash occurred shortly after 5 a.m. at the intersection of Earnest W. Barrett Parkway and Stilesboro Road NW. As seen by FOX 5 cameras, the aftermath involved a 2013 Hyundai Sonata that had collided with a traffic light pole. Fire engines and police units, responding to the incident, had shut down the northbound lanes of the parkway while dealing with the scene, and partially blocked the southbound lanes as well as all lanes leading west from the intersection on Stilesboro Road.

While the crash is still under investigation, officials disclosed that the vehicle was traveling north when, crossing over the median, it struck the utility pole. "Officials say that a blue 2013 Hyundai Sonata was traveling north on the parkway when it crossed over the concrete median and hit the utility pole," as described in the coverage by FOX 5 Atlanta.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution provided further details, citing a police spokesperson, "for reasons unknown, Ms. Wamweya failed to maintain a single lane of travel, crossed over the raised concrete median and collided with a utility pole," said Aaron Wilson. Roads were reopened by 7:30 a.m., but the investigation into the exact cause of the accident with the crossing over the raised median, and subsequent collision remains ongoing.

The community expresses its condolences to the family of Ms. Wamweya as the investigation continues. Anyone with information that may assist in the case is encouraged to reach out to the Cobb County Police Department at (770) 499-3987.
