Early this morning, an emergency call drew the Knoxville Fire Department to the scene of a blazing house fire at 1544 Massachusetts Avenue. The KFD reported the entire house was engulfed in flames by the time fire crews arrived at the dead-end street location. WVLT detailed how firefighters managed to extinguish the fire in the home and a subsequent small yard fire close by.
Despite the absence of electricity in the building, signifying its state of uninhabitability before the fire erupted, three individuals had been living illegally within its confines. According to officials cited by WBIR, among these occupants, two were female, and one was male. In a twist to the incident, one of the females was taken into custody by Knoxville Fire Investigators and is now facing charges of aggravated arson.
The fire, which led to the displacement of the illicit inhabitants, caused such extensive damage to the property that the structure was deemed a "total loss," as KFD officials mentioned, per WVLT. No injuries were reported from the incident, providing a grim silver lining to an otherwise unfortunate event.
In the aftermath of the fire, questions linger about the circumstances that led to the arson charge, and the identity of the arrested woman has not been disclosed. The KFD was first notified of the inferno around 2:58 a.m., and the swift response of the crews had the fire under control within ten minutes of their arrival, pointed out by an update from the Knoxville Fire Department.
