A somber tone has settled over Knoxville after a stabbing incident led to one man's death and another being held for questioning. WATE News reports that Knoxville Police Department (KPD) officers were dispatched to Cokesbury United Methodist Church upon a report of a victim with stab wounds.
The man, who arrived at the church with injuries described as non-life-threatening, was later detained for questioning near Kingston Pike and I-140 where another man was found deceased. According to the KPD, as of the initial stages of the investigation, no other suspects are being sought, as relayed by WBIR.com.
Members of Cokesbury United Methodist Church, located just a short distance from the scene, have expressed their heartache and commitment to supporting the Knoxville community during this tragedy. "Anytime there’s violence of any kind in our community, we just pray for all the people that were impacted, of all the people involved,” Executive Pastor Anna Lee told WVLT News. Reflecting further, Lee emphasized the church’s role as a steadfast neighbor and provider of hope in tough times.
The identity of the deceased has not been released, with the KPD continuing their investigation into the events that unfolded. The man who sought help at Cokesbury Church was promptly attended to and the police were called, a church call that routed officers to a nearby homeless camp where the body was discovered. The church has a history of extending aid to those in need, including the individual involved in the incident, confirming a prior interaction with services provided by the church, according to Pastor Lee's statement obtained by WVLT News.
