Details from the investigation reveal a confrontation that quickly escalated. According to KPD, two suspects, 40-year-old Kevin Matthews and 36-year-old Steven Davis are believed to have initiated the attack. A surveillance footage review by authorities, as noted by WBIR, showed Matthews and Davis confronting the victims at the entrance of the bar, igniting the fatal altercation. Amidst the fray, Matthews reportedly brandished a firearm and shot both Herrera, who succumbed to his injuries after being transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center, and Goosie, who died at the scene.
In the wake of the shooting, police were able to apprehend Davis on a charge of aggravated assault and violation of parole. Matthews, however, remains at large and is charged with two counts of first-degree murder. KPD has warned that he should be considered "armed and dangerous," as conveyed in a statement to the press. KPD's appeal to the public for assistance in capturing Matthews is urgent, directing anyone with information to contact East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers at 865-215-7165, as per WATE.
