Tragedy struck early in the morning on July 21, as a pedestrian was fatally injured in a hit-and-run incident on East Harmon Avenue, just west of Paradise Road. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department reported the victim, a 62-year-old male, was crossing the road outside of a marked crosswalk when he was struck by what witnesses describe as a small to midsize, dark-colored SUV. The vehicle was said to be traveling westbound in the left lane before it collided with the pedestrian, who was flung forward onto the pavement. The driver has yet to be identified, as they fled the scene without stopping to aid the victim or report the accident.
The aftermath of the collision brought together first responders who hurriedly transported the pedestrian to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center. Despite doctors' tireless efforts, the injuries proved too severe; the man was pronounced deceased by medical staff. According to the announcement of Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, this incident has marked the 87th traffic-related fatality within the jurisdiction of the LVMPD this year alone.
The search for the driver involved in this incident continues as LVMPD's Collision Investigation Section takes the lead. The authorities appeal to the public for assistance, urging anyone with information about the driver or the vehicle to step forward.
