A serious collision at Mission Beach last night resulted in life-threatening injuries for a 20-year-old female passenger. According to the San Diego Police Department traffic division's Watch Commander's Log, the incident occurred around 11:08 PM in the parking lot of 700 Ventura Place. A 21-year-old male, operating a Suzuki GSX-R600 motorcycle, was seen performing wheelies with the woman riding pillion before losing control of the vehicle as they exited onto the roadway.
The report from Officer J. Perales described the male driver sustaining only a leg abrasion while riding rapidly before the accident happened. Tragically, the female passenger, who had not been wearing a helmet, was thrown from the bike, suffering a skull fracture, elbow fracture, and avulsions to her forehead. The injuries were considered to be life-threatening, and she was promptly transported to a local hospital.
The SDPD has since taken over the investigation of the collision. Officers from the Traffic Division were dispatched to the scene to assess the factors contributing to the crash. Their findings will determine the full sequence of events leading up to the accident and establish any potential charges that may arise against the motorcyclist responsible for the incident.
