Tragedy struck late Friday night in Lindenhurst when a single-vehicle crash claimed two lives and left two others in critical condition. The incident occurred in the 1700 block of Grand Avenue, where a car, it is reported by the Lindenhurst Police Department, veered off the road and collided with a tree, subsequently erupting in a fatal blaze. According to ABC7 Chicago, police arrived around 11:30 p.m. to discover the vehicle fully engulfed in flames, with four individuals trapped within.
The response from the Lake Villa Fire Protection District was swift, extinguishing the fire that had overtaken the car, and allowing paramedics to rush the two critically injured passengers to the hospital. Regrettably, two victims were pronounced dead at the scene. "Officers attempted to extinguish the fire. They also found four occupants trapped inside the vehicle," Lindenhurst Police Chief Thomas C. Jones said, in a statement obtained by Lake and McHenry County Scanner. The crash did not involve any other vehicles.
The aftermath left Grand Avenue closed for several hours as the scene was processed by the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT), which, alongside local law enforcement, is actively investigating the cause of the incident. Describing the details of the crash, Chief Jones relayed that the vehicle had been moving eastbound on Grand Avenue before the tragedy unfolded.
While the identities of the deceased are being held until the next of kin can be notified, autopsies have been scheduled by the Lake County Coroner's Office for Monday. Officials from Lindenhurst Police Department have appealed to the public, asking for anyone with additional information about the incident to come forward.
