Over the weekend, a domestic dispute in Atlanta escalated into an armed confrontation with police, resulting in one man injured and now facing multiple charges. On Saturday just before 7:30 p.m., officers responded to a call from a woman at the Trace apartment complex at 782 Peachtree Street NE, FOX 5 Atlanta reported. She told police she had been in a physical altercation with her boyfriend, 24-year-old Tabiaus Sheely of College Park.

The woman, who showed signs of harm with bruises on her chest and head, had requested that Sheely be removed from her residence. When authorities located Sheely near the apartment's entrance, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said he fled, then subsequently drew a weapon and fired at an officer. In response, the officer shot back, striking Sheely in the arm, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Following the exchange, Sheely received treatment for his non-life-threatening injuries at Grady Memorial Hospital before being taken into custody. According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, no officers were injured during the incident. Online records indicate that Sheely is facing charges including aggravated assault, false imprisonment, criminal trespass, robbery by intimidation, simple battery, terroristic threats and acts, and possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of a crime.

This recent arrest isn't Sheely's first encounter with the law. Last month, he was apprehended on charges of battery - family violence, false imprisonment and cruelty to children, he was later released from the Fulton County Jail two days following his arrest. As with all instances of law enforcement using their weapons, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is conducting an independent investigation into the shootout, the 46th officer-involved shooting to occur in 2024, a decrease from 57 such events by this point last year. Once complete, the case file will be reviewed by the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office, as per standard procedure.
