A 36-year-old man was stabbed while aboard a CTA Red Line train in Rogers Park late Monday night. The incident took place near the Loyola station, situated in the 1200 block of West Loyola Avenue, around 10:50 p.m., as reported by the Chicago Sun-Times. The police said that the man was approached by an assailant wielding a knife and subsequently attacked.
Descriptions of the assault have illustrated the randomness and abruptness of the event, with the attacker stabbing the victim apparently without provocation. He sustained lacerations to his right cheek and nose. Despite the violence visited upon him on a train filled with people, no one had been taken into custody at the time of the reports, according to FOX 32 Chicago.
The victim was immediately transported to St. Francis Hospital, as per the FOX 32 Chicago. The case has been taken over by Area Three detectives, who are now in the process of investigating the stabbing.
