The ongoing issue with the deteriorating Hotel Marysville took a new turn as city officials, dissatisfied with the owners' inaction, scheduled a special meeting to discuss the potential demolition of the property, according to a FOX40 report. The burned structure, which is linked to Feather River LLC, Urban Smart Growth, and Panot Capital, has been causing traffic disruptions and economic strain on the community, prompting the City of Marysville to consider stepping in to address the public safety risks.
City Manager Jim Schaad expressed frustration over the lack of a clear abatement plan from the property owners, even five weeks post-fire, and the city has now taken measures to protect the public, including fencing 105 feet around the hotel; this was a measure initially resisted by the owner's legal counsel, Mr. Daniel Katz, who suggested that "Police Tape by the City sounds appropriate" instead, while the City assumed responsibility for ensuring public safety by implementing the perimeter, all while the owners have been reportedly dragging their feet over negotiations, as detailed on a Facebook post by the City of Marysville.
Amid this landscape of tension and evasion, the owners of the hotel were given a deadline to consider the city's proposal for abatement to no avail, with Katz indicating on a Facebook post by the City of Marysville that the "time for (city) acceptance has lapsed" and stating the need for more time to consider, despite city officials' substantial prodding. City guidelines grant the power to abate any public hazard, but officials seem to be seeking a settlement to spare the public from the financial implications of the demolition.
