Memphis authorities are currently on the lookout for an individual whose method of concealing his identity during an act of theft involved an unconventional use of sports equipment. Local police have received reports of a package thief utilising a basketball, not for athleticism, but as a mask of anonymity as he committed the crime. Action News 5 detailed the incident which occurred just before 11:00 a.m. on July 12 on Brindley Drive, wherein a suspect is said to have walked by a residence, doubled back and used the basketball to obscure his face before swiftly taking a package which contained a new cell phone and fleeing the location.
Despite the creativity displayed in the mode of disguise, no leads on the suspect's identity have been confirmed at this time, and thus far no arrests have been made, although the investigations by the Memphis Police Department continue, with the latest efforts focusing on gathering evidence and any potential witness accounts, information regarding the curious incident can be communicated to CrimeStoppers by calling 901-528-CASH, a move which the department hopes will help them track down the suspect.
Two other local news outlets covering the theft, WREG News Channel 3 and echoed the information provided by Action News 5, further describing that the incident took place in the 4000 block of Brindley Drive and specified the time of the theft at 10:50 a.m.
