A Memphis man is currently listed in critical condition after being shot in his chest while watching television in his own home. According to WREG, the incident occurred late Sunday evening in the 1700 block of McNair Street. The victim was in bed when the sound of gunfire disrupted the night and a bullet found its way into his upper right chest.
Responding to the scene, Memphis Police officers found the injured man who reported hearing the shots, one of which struck him with a piercing "pop." He was swiftly administered aid by the officers, who discovered that the bullet had not exited his body, as per information from FOX13 Memphis. Regional One admitted the man, rendering critical care for his gunshot wound.
A witness relayed to investigating officers seeing suspects fleeing the scene in a white SUV, adding another layer of urgency to an already tense investigation. The details surrounding the shooting remain sparse, but at around 5 a.m. the next day, a stolen white Infiniti Q50 with black rims was identified by a security officer in the area of Ridgeway Station Precinct. Police confirmed it to be the same vehicle described by the witness with four to five juveniles inside, according to the events detailed by Action News 5.
Memphis Police officers subsequently towed the vehicle, after confirming it as stolen by running the tags and VIN number. As of now, no suspects have been named and the investigation remains underway.
