
A 4-year-old child in Tamiami is recovering after a random bullet struck him inside his home during a nearby dispute that escalated into gunfire. The Miami-Dade Police have arrested a 23-year-old man, Christopher Delcarpio, on charges related to the shooting, as reported by WSVN. He faces first-degree murder, attempted murder with a deadly weapon, and firearm-related offenses, subsequent to the incident which took place on Saturday night around 8:45 p.m. near Southwest 127th Court and 16th Street.
The tragedy unfolded as two individuals were involved in a verbal argument that turned violent, leading one to recklessly discharge a firearm, resulting in a stray bullet injuring the young Dylan who was inside a nearby home. The boy, who police said was using an iPad at the time, was quickly transported to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital in critical but stable condition.
According to an interview with Dylan's mother, Hassell Oporta, by WSVN, her son was left traumatized by the incident, and she was haunted by thoughts of what could have happened to her child. “I’ve been having really scary thoughts of what could’ve happened. Thank God, that didn’t happen,” she said. Meanwhile, the local residents are trying to come to terms with the violent disruption to their neighborhood's peace.
As the investigation continues, the community is urged to assist law enforcement; an active appeal for witnesses remains ongoing. Further details concerning the identity of the individuals involved in the initial dispute and their connection to the victim, if any, have not been disclosed. A neighbor relayed through a translator the chaos of the incident, admitting to hearing gunfire before witnessing police rescue the wounded child, as Hoodline reported: "When I got closer to see what happened, police arrived, went inside and came out with a child who had been shot."
