A disturbing scene unfolded at Miami International Airport late Saturday night as 29-year-old Alexander Love was involved in a violent stabbing incident that escalated into a chaotic situation with travelers fearing an active shooter was present. Love is reported to have stabbed a known female acquaintance several times in an attempted to throw her over the railing from the fourth floor of Terminal J after 11:30 p.m.; the altercation and subsequent panic led to a temporary evacuation of the area, according to Local 10 News.
In the immediate aftermath, misinformation about an active shooter spread through the airport, prompting a false alarm, witnesses recounted hearing someone yell "RUN!" following the violent incident, causing panic among the passengers. Miami-Dade Police Detective Angel Rodriguez explained that "officers received reports of a possible active shooter," however this turned out to be unfounded, as the situation proved to be isolated to the stabbing perpetrated by Love, as reports from Local 10 News.
Rodriguez further clarified that, "Using all available resources, the units were able to determine there was no active shooter and only the stabbing had taken place," as stated by Local 10 News. Operations at the airport were briefly affected but have since resumed to normal. The victim, whose name has not been released, was critically injured and transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center; while her condition was critical, she was expected to survive according to authorities.
Love was soon taken into custody and found in possession of the knife said Rodriguez, who also mentioned that the exact nature of Love's business at the airport, if any, was not yet known, Love now faces charges of attempted murder with a deadly weapon and premeditated attempted murder and is incarcerated at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, as confirmed by inmate records. While the immediate threat was quelled, the investigation continues, and Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers have been asking anyone with future information about the incident to come forward and call 305-471-8477, reflecting the ongoing nature of the situation at hand and the search for answers.
