A disturbing trove of child sexual abuse material was found in Little Havana, leading to the arrest of Francisco Ramon Cruz Rodriguez, a 51-year-old Miami man. During a police raid on Wednesday, a search of Rodriguez's apartment led to the confiscation of multiple electronic devices. According to NBC Miami, authorities discovered 482 images and videos on a USB drive that was located within easy reach of where the suspect was during the apprehension.
Contained within the array of illegal content, Google content showed several screenshots of the defendant engaging in an inappropriate video call with a minor. "What was so shocking about this case there were images that our detectives hadn’t previously seen in any data bank that we had investigated before," said Miami Police Chief Manuel Morales, as experience shocked investigators amid their probe into the haunting material. The findings are part of an ongoing investigation by Miami's Internet Crimes Against Children task force.
The digital footprint also implicated Rodriguez in the direct victimization of young children. Local 10 reports that detectives obtained evidence of Rodriguez taking part in a video call with a girl who was masturbating while he was exposing himself. The age of the girl in this incident was not disclosed by the authorities.
Additionally, amidst the content depicting victims who appeared as young as 2 years old, the investigation enabled detectives to identify a girl in one of the photos, stated to be between 7 and 8 years old, residing beyond the Miami Police Department's reach. As uncovered by initial forensic examination, the images cast a dark shadow over Little Havana, once more bringing child exploitation into the harsh gaze of community scrutiny. Rodriguez now faces charges for possession and promotion of child pornography and is currently held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center without bond.
