In a decisive ruling, Timothy Gordon, a 48-year-old man from Montgomery, was sentenced to natural life in prison without the possibility of parole for the murder of his wife, Yahaira, as reported by the Chicago Tribune. Kane County Circuit Court Judge Clint Hull imposed the life sentence, citing the use of a firearm in the commission of the crime, which allows for a sentencing enhancement.
The sentencing comes after a dreadful incident on the morning of October 31, 2022, when Gordon, having learned that his wife may have been in the process of obtaining an order of protection against him, forcefully entered her bedroom. In front of Yahaira's mother, her aunt, and two of her children, ages two and seven, Gordon shot her in the head. According to the FOX 32 Chicago coverage, the victim was making a video recording on her cellphone at the time due to her fear of confrontation with Gordon.
Before this incident, Gordon's criminal history included multiple convictions, such as armed violence, robbery, aggravated battery with a firearm, aggravated DUI, and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, as detailed by FOX 32 Chicago. Notably, he was still on parole for the last mentioned offense when he murdered his wife.
