A pedestrian was struck and killed in a hit-and-run collision in San Jacinto on Saturday, July 27. The incident, handled by the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, took place on State Street, just south of Esplanade Avenue. According to a statement from the department's Sergeant Patrick Lynch, deputies responded to the scene at approximately 5:08 p.m. and found the victim with severe injuries along the roadside; despite efforts to save their life, the individual was pronounced dead at the scene.
During the subsequent investigation, authorities identified the suspect's vehicle, a white 2015 Chevrolet Camaro later found in Moreno Valley, where it was stopped, the car had extensive damage, and the driver, Darell Davis, a 33-year-old resident of Moreno Valley, was arrested. He was booked for the felony hit-and-run. The Sheriff's Department has declared that neither alcohol nor drugs seem to have been a contributing factor in the tragic incident; however, the complete cause of the collision is still being looked into.
The identity of the deceased pedestrian is being withheld until next of kin can be notified. In light of the ongoing investigation and the necessity to gather evidence, State Street was closed temporarily between Esplanade Avenue and Fruitvale Avenue, causing some disruption for local traffic.
