A domestic altercation in Putnam County has escalated to a fatal shooting, leading to the arrest of a mother and her son, as reported by the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO); a press release from the PCSO, obtained by WKRN, states that following a fight on Saturday, Tony Thompson Jr. shot his brother Billy Thompson in the eye, resulting in Billy's death after he was transported to Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
Earlier accounts provided by Amanda Thompson, the mother of the involved siblings, included an alleged scenario where a man named Josh visited the residence for target practice with her son Billy, leading to the accidental shooting, however, deputies identified inconsistencies revealing Amanda Thompson gave a false account, detailing instead Tony Thompson's direct involvement in his brother's shooting Tony Thompson, who had fled the scene before law enforcement arrived, has since then been arrested and charged with second-degree murder seeing his bond set at a steep $1 million.
Further complicating the family's legal woes, Amanda Thompson now faces charges of her own for fabricating/tampering with evidence after her misdirected attempt to shield her son from culpability was unraveled; her bond is currently set at $20,000 as mentioned in reports by FOX 17.
The mother-son duo is scheduled to make their court appearance on August 26, in the wake of a familial dispute that has severed ties in the most irreversible way, leaving a wake of tragedy and legal ramifications that undoubtedly, have altered the course of this family's narrative, and it is in these moments we are reminded that behind the cold veil of law and order lie the shatterings of a once whole, if not troubled, familial bond as quoted in an article by WSMV.
