A tragic incident involving a motorcyclist and a wrong-way driver has resulted in one fatality on Interstate 24 in Clarksville, leaving the westbound lanes closed for hours Sunday evening. WKRN reports that the motorcyclist, identified as 21-year-old Ethan Tran of Tennessee, was struck head-on and killed by a 2016 Jeep Patriot, which was traveling in the wrong direction.
According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the incident took place around 5:19 p.m. near mile marker 3 on I-24 West. The driver of the Jeep, 68-year-old Christopher Mulwa of Tennessee, reportedly injured in the collision, was wearing his seatbelt when his vehicle veered off the road, entering a yaw before coming to rest in the middle of the interstate. The motorcycle, meanwhile, lay on the right shoulder, as told by the FOX17.
Mulwa has been charged with vehicular homicide in connection with the incident. Following the crash, traffic was detoured at exit 4, as per instructions by the authorities. Clarksville Now also confirmed that it was several hours before the lanes were reopened, and motorists were advised to find alternate routes during the investigation period.
No additional information about the crash has been released beyond the identification of the individuals involved and the nature of the charges against Mulwa.
