In the early hours before dawn, DeKalb County became the site of a roaring fire that consumed several dump trucks. The incident took place on the 7000 block of Maddox Road in Lithonia, an area known for its industrial businesses, specifically at a site operated by NT Hawling and Dirt Works, reported FOX 5 Atlanta.
The blaze reportedly began shortly before 2 a.m., and the response from fire crews was swift, though the battle with the flames carried on for hours. Witnesses in the vicinity described hearing multiple explosions, a cacophony that preceded the grim discovery of the charred remains of the dump trucks. As of now, the number of vehicles lost to the flames has not been disclosed, and it remains unclear if there were any injuries as no reports of anyone being inside or near the trucks at the time have been confirmed, according to Atlanta News First.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, with authorities yet to provide any definitive answers as to what sparked the conflagration. With the vehicles sustaining massive damage, local business operations could likely be impacted.
Both fire officials and representatives of NT Hawling and Dirt Works, have yet to release detailed information pertaining to the damage estimates and potential impact on their operations.
