The Murfreesboro Police Department (MPD) recently recognized the advancement of two of its own, according to an announcement on their official website. Officer Charles Ryan Speed and Detective Steven Vajcner have been promoted to the rank of Sergeant following their progression within the department and service to the community. The department held a ceremony to honor the officers on June 28.
Chief Michael Bowen commended the new Sergeants for their commitment and exemplifying the ethos of the force. Sergeant Charles Ryan Speed, who became part of MPD in April 2017, has a varied service record. He has been a Field Training Officer, a member of the Community Oriented Policing Unit, and most recently served in the Special Operations Unit. Speed's background as a U.S. Army veteran and his academic pursuit, earning a degree in Criminal Justice from Bethel University, has rounded out his qualifications for his new role as assistant shift commander in the Uniformed Division.
Similarly, Sergeant Steven Vajcner started with the department in July 2015 and has since filled the role of a Field Training Officer and detective before joining the Special Operations Unit. Vajcner, a seasoned service member who continues his commitment as a member of the Tennessee Army National Guard, will also take up the position as an assistant shift commander within a Uniformed Division.
