A 17-year-old teenager was fatally shot in an early morning incident at a duplex in the Old Hickory neighborhood of Nashville. Metro Nashville Police Department responded to the shooting shortly after 12:30 a.m. today on Bryan Street. The young man was transported to hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, as reported by WSMV.

Neighbors in the area spoke of hearing a vehicle speed away post the gunfire, although officers have not confirmed the number of suspects involved. The teen, named Caleb Womack by his girlfriend, was in the residence when the shots were fired. The bullets striking the building multiple times, relayed officials present at the scene, FOX 17 News also mentioned hearing about four gunshots around the 1 a.m. through a neighbor's account.

Reflected in the words of Womack's girlfriend, Kylee Harter. In an interview with WKRN News 2, Harter reminisced about the high school rising senior, saying, "He was a really good kid he was the best boyfriend ever, that I could ever wish for, the way he laughed all the time, it made me laugh, his smile was contagious he was always smiling he smiled, you smile too. He was such a good kid, he knew how to make everybody laugh."

The shooting's precise motive and circumstances are as yet unclear, and the investigation is ongoing. Officers have been conducting door-to-door inquiries around Bryan St and 9th St near DuPont Elementary School in the hopes of uncovering more details.
