In a confrontation that escalated to gunfire, a New Hampshire man was apprehended after he allegedly shot another man outside a Maine pizzeria. The incident occurred yesterday afternoon in the small town of Cornish, and has become the focus of a Maine State Police investigation.
Sean Ambrose, 40, of Canterbury, N.H., is accused of reckless conduct with a firearm, following the shooting at Fairgrounds Pizza and Pub, located at 156 Maple Street. According to The Boston Globe, authorities quickly responded to the scene around 2:30 p.m. after receiving reports of the shooting. Witnesses and signage indicate the pizzeria to be a local gathering place just 17 miles from the New Hampshire border.
The victim, Eric Letendre, 44, of West Baldwin, Maine, was reportedly found with two gunshot wounds. State troopers had to rapidly apply a tourniquet to stabilize Letendre before he was transported by Life Flight helicopter to Maine Medical Center in Portland. While initial reports described Letendre's injuries as minor, NECN later stated that his injuries were serious but not life-threatening.
The connection between the assailant and the victim has been confirmed, as police indicated that Ambrose and Letendre were known to each other, though the specific motive behind the shooting has yet to be publicly disclosed. Ambrose was arrested and transported to York County Jail. Details on bail or court proceedings have not been made available at this time, as the investigation continues to diligently unfold.
No additional information has been provided as of now, and the case remains under scrutiny as state police piece together the circumstances leading up to this violent encounter in an otherwise serene setting.
