In a move towards enhancing inter-city connectivity and outdoor recreation, Williamson County unfolds plans for a new trail that aims to bridge Leander and Round Rock. The projected path will run through a greenbelt in Vista Oaks, a measure that invites opinion from the residents of the neighborhood it will affect most directly. This latest endeavor is set out to foster easier access between communities, parks, and educational institutions.
According to the KXAN report, the two-mile route plans to introduce a ten-foot-wide paved path that fits within the county's broader intention of creating a continuum of trails connecting Georgetown, Cedar Park, Brushy Creek, Round Rock, and Hutto. “This trail is part of a long-term master plan for Williamson County to improve connectivity and accessibility for residents to get from some of our local parks to other trails in the area,” said County Parks Director Russell Fishbeck.
The funding behind the new trail derives from parks bonds approved by voters in 2019 and 2023, although a final cost assessment remains pending. It’s estimated that the development will require an investment of at least two million dollars. Williamson County has arranged a series of open-house events to discuss the proposals, aiming to inform Vista Oaks residents and address their concerns about the new development
Elsewhere within Round Rock, the city council has greenlit an advanced funding agreement with the Texas Department of Transportation, paving further progress on the Heritage Trail East Project, which forms an essential element of the forthcoming Lawn at Brushy Creek, a downtown park spanning 20 acres. Community Impact provided insight into additional elements of this project, which includes plans for a canoe launch, a boardwalk, and extended sidewalks to support community events like craft fairs and farmers markets.
For those keen on understanding the specifics of the proposed trail and to provide their input, details concerning the open-house events can be found on Williamson County’s official website. Round Rock residents, on the other hand, look forward to the enhanced outdoor experiences that the Heritage Trail East Project and the Lawn at Brushy Creek will eventually offer, marking a celebrated expansion of their local trail system and green spaces.
