Last night, an apartment fire rattled the Holland community but resulted in no injuries, officials report. The blaze erupted approximately at 11:25 P.M. at 305 Stratford Way. According to WOODTV, the flames were confined to the living room of a second-floor apartment. Holland firefighters were dispatched after a 911 call noted the fire, with heavy smoke spewing from the apartment's windows when they arrived.
Engulfed in heavy smoke, fire crews made a quick entry to extinguish the fire. "Firefighters made quick entry into the affected apartment unit to extinguish the fire and conduct a search to confirm that all occupants had safely evacuated", detailed a report from the City of Holland. The fire was doused shortly after the crews' arrival, and fortunately, has not spread beyond its initial birthplace. While residents were shaken, the immediate threat dissolved without bodily harm, and firefighters suffered no injuries during the response to the incident.
The extent of the damage wrought by the fire is being evaluated, and the investigation into its cause remains ongoing. Holland Police, Holland Twp. Fire Department and American Medical Response extended their support to the fire department. Furthermore, HDPS Victim Advocates and the American Red Cross were on the scene, offering assistance to the affected residents and helping secure temporary accommodations.
As a proactive safety measure, the Holland Department of Public Safety has issued a reminder to the public about the importance of smoke alarms. "These devices provide early indication of a fire in your home and save lives. Do your part and check yours today", the City of Holland stressed.
