In a recent crackdown on drug trafficking within the Tenderloin district, an Oakland man has been taken into custody and charged with multiple felonies. Pedro Vargas Medina, 25, faces allegations of possession and intent to sell controlled substances, namely fentanyl and cocaine base. On Wednesday, he appeared in court, pleading not guilty to all counts.
San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins expressed her gratitude towards the San Francisco Police Department for their role in the investigation leading to Medina's apprehension. "My office will do everything in our power to hold drug dealers accountable," Jenkins stated, as per the San Francisco District Attorney. She warns drug dealers operating in the city to "expect to be identified, arrested and prosecuted in San Francisco." Medina, who was previously released on bail and his recognizance, now finds himself in a predicament as the court has agreed to detain him without bail, deeming him a risk to public safety.

The SFPD searched Medina's Oakland residence last Friday, and they proceeded to track him from Oakland to San Francisco. According to court documents, upon his arrival on Golden Gate Avenue, officers found Medina in possession of significant amounts of fentanyl, a lesser amount of cocaine base, and a digital scale. The weight of the fentanyl alone was over 62 grams.
With Medina behind bars and no bail option, his next court appearance is scheduled for July 30. The DA's office intends to ensure he remains in custody throughout the trial. As the investigation continues, authorities are urging anyone with actionable information to come forward and assist by calling the San Francisco Police Department Tip Line or sending an anonymous text beginning with "SFPD" to TIP411.
