Camping in Oregon's state parks might come at a higher cost as the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department (OPRD) is drawing up proposals to increase the rate ranges for its camping and facility services. Citing utility cost hikes, maintenance demands, and inflation, the proposed changes, if implemented, aim to offer flexibility in pricing rather than immediate fee hikes. The current rate for tent campsites is between $17 and $22 per night before local lodging taxes are added. Under the new proposal, this cap could escalate to $29, according to the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department.
Public input on these proposals is crucial, and OPRD is welcoming comments through August 30. The department has organized three public hearings and also encourages feedback via a succinct survey available during the comment period. The virtual public hearing is scheduled for July 3, with in-person sessions set for August in Nehalem and Salem. Details on participation and submissions can be found on the OPRD website.
After the public comment phase ends, adjustments with possible refinements will be considered by the Oregon State Parks and Recreation Commission for potential adoption in late 2024. These changes, once approved by the Oregon legislature and signed off by the Governor, wouldn't make an impact until summer 2025.
