Yesterday, an overturned semitruck brought traffic to a standstill on the northbound lanes of the I-65 near downtown Indianapolis, complicating commutes for those traveling from the south side of the city to the north end. The incident, occurring near the notorious North Split, resulted in a full closure of the affected interstate section as cleanup operations commenced. WRTV reported that the crash happened around 4 a.m., and thankfully, no injuries were sustained according to the emergency crews present at the scene.

Entrance ramp from Pine St. to I-65 northbound is closed due to an overturned semi truck. Folks cannot access I-65 northbound at Pine St. We are detouring the I-65 northbound traffic to I-70 eastbound.

The traffic, trying to evade the I-465 closure by taking the northbound I-65 detour, was directed to seek other routes, adding to the morning's frustrations. In the wake of the accident - which blanketed the right two lanes and part of the left lane with the hulking mass of metal and cargo - drivers were forced onto the shoulder to evade the truck's cab and the flurry of emergency personnel at work, WISH-TV described. The closure, expected to span several hours, compromised the major artery of transport in Indianapolis, with no immediate report on injuries as the semi overturned.
By the time rush hour was looming, crews were still laboring to clear the interstate. Authorities were directing traffic onto eastbound I-70, attempting to mitigate the gridlock as travelers contended with the unexpected detour. According to WTHR, the semi in question was loaded with a considerable cargo, about 42,000 pounds worth, contributing to the challenge of removal and subsequent road reopening.
While the morning's disruption unwound, travelers caught in the mix found themselves in a different place, waiting for the reestablishment of normal fire. The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) had alerted, as lanes were eventually shut down and traffic diverting strategies put into the place around 5:45 a.m., that all northbound traffic was being moved onto the eastbound lanes of the adjoining Interstate 70, spinning off the inert semi's disruptive shadow into the arteries of alternate routes.
