Palm Beach International Airport is set to receive a significant boost in infrastructure funding, with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announcing a $17.2 million grant. According to a statement from the Palm Beach County government, the grant is part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law Airport Infrastructure Grant program and will be used to revamp key areas including Taxiway F, Taxiway H, and the shoulders of Runway 14/32. The project aims to enhance safety by rehabilitating and reconstructing pavement, as well as improving lighting systems.

The grant will cover 75% of the expenses, with the remaining 25% to be funded by passenger facility fees. “This grant will enhance safety at PBI by providing the funds needed to complete an important airfield rehabilitation project,” Laura Beebe, Director of Airports, told officials. She expressed gratitude for the investment and the ongoing commitment to modernize and improve airport infrastructure.

Palm Beach International has recently been recognized for its quality and service, ranking as the 4th best airport in the nation by Conde Nast and the 8th best domestic airport by Travel + Leisure Magazine in 2023. These accolades follow its commendation as the 4th best medium-size airport in a J.D. Power satisfaction study, as well as having the shortest overall TSA wait times, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Beyond comfort and efficiency, PBI is an economic powerhouse for South Florida, contributing over $5.6 billion to the local economy, both directly and indirectly, as the 2019 FDOT Florida Statewide Aviation Economic Impact Study indicates. The airport serves more than 8 million passengers annually and prides itself on offering an award-winning travel experience to its users.
