In a tragic series of events, a pedestrian lost their life on State Route 154 in Coweta County after being struck by multiple vehicles. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, the incident occurred in the eastbound lane near Mile Post 8 around 12:52 a.m. on Friday. A vehicle hit the pedestrian and then fled the scene; the driver has yet to be identified and did not stop to provide aid nor did they alert authorities.
The Georgia State Patrol informed WSBTV that following the initial collision, three additional vehicles subsequently struck the pedestrian who was already lying on the poorly-lit road, compounding the tragedy with each successive impact, and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene but as of now, there’s been no release of the victim’s identity nor a description of the first vehicle involved in the accident.
Authorities have faced challenges due to the dark conditions on this portion of SR 154, which may have played a role in the pedestrian's subsequent collisions with the other vehicles. The Georgia State Patrol's specialized collision team is conducting an investigation to reconstruct the fatal incident, piece together the actions leading to the pedestrian’s unfortunate death and to find the driver responsible for the initial hit-and-run, as reported by FOX 5 Atlanta.
At this stage of the investigation, details are limited, including whether the other vehicles involved stopped after striking the pedestrian or any distinguishing characteristics of the pedestrian or the vehicle that first struck them. GSP's Special Collision Reconstruction Team (SCRT) is working diligently to uncover crucial information for the case, providing answers to the painful questions left in the wake of the collision. This effort is crucial both for the investigation and for the grieving parties who have been thrust into mourning without warning or reason.
