In a display of swift law enforcement response, Piedmont police apprehended two suspects yesterday tied to an assault with a deadly weapon that occurred in Oakland. According to the Piedmont Police Department, officers were alerted by an Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) system about a felony vehicle making its way into the city. The vehicle in question had been involved in a prior assault using a firearm.
The Piedmont Dispatch received the ALPR alert, and as soon as officers were informed, they converged on the location where the vehicle was reportedly found—the Grand Lake Ace Hardware parking lot. Two individuals found with the vehicle were detained without any reported incident. A subsequent search of the vehicle unveiled a Glock 19 9mm handgun equipped with an illegal 24-round high-capacity magazine.
After their detention in Piedmont, the suspects were handed over to Oakland PD. They were reportedly later transported to Santa Rita Jail, where they face multiple charges stemming from both the weapon possession and the assault incident in Oakland.
