An 18-year-old Pittsfield man has been arrested and charged in connection with a shooting that occurred on the corner of North and Bradford street last month, authorities said. On June 14, 2024, just after 5 p.m., Pittsfield Police Department officers responded to reports of gunfire and discovered two men with gunshot wounds. The victims were quickly transported to Berkshire Medical Center, treated for their injuries, and released, according to a police department statement.
Following an investigation into the incident, officers were able to establish probable cause and charged Deakan Sayers with multiple counts, including Armed Assault with Intent to Murder and Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon. Sayers was reportedly arrested by members of the PPD's Anti-Crime Unit on Friday, June 28, 2024, on Putnam Avenue. Pittsfield Police detailed that he was also charged with unlawfully carrying and discharging a firearm.
Sayers faced these charges formally at his arraignment, which took place yesterday at the Pittsfield District Court. The Pittsfield Police Department has appealed to the public for further information regarding the case and encourages anyone with details to reach out to the PPD Detective Bureau. They have provided avenues for contact, including a designated tip line and a texting service to facilitate anonymous tips.
