This summer, Plymouth History Center is bringing the past to life for young minds with a new Story Time series at the cherished Plymouth Old Town Hall. Set to take place 10-11 a.m. on Tuesdays—July 30, Aug. 6, and Aug. 13—these free events are especially designed for families with elementary-age children. The aim, to spark interest in local history, will feature readings on different historical topics followed by corresponding activities. Kids will have the story supplemented by a chance to dive hands-on into history's practical application.
On July 30, the series will tackle the interconnected narratives of aviation and farming—a tale of technology and earth. As the children are engrossed in stories, the event on August 6 will shift focus solely to the history of farming, and on Aug. 13, it will wrap up with tales centered around the history of voting. "History is all about storytelling and passing down insights to future generations," Plymouth Historical Site Coordinator Ryan Barland was quoted in a statement by the City of Plymouth website, eager over Old Town Hall's reopening and its potential as a vessel for educational entertainment.
The Story Time series arrives as Plymouth Old Town Hall opens its doors to the public once more, offering a tangible link to yesteryear. An open house event is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 3, welcoming all who wish to step through the threshold into a space steeped in heritage. Thereafter, history buffs and the curious can visit Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and on the first Saturday of every month, determined to keep the facility accessible for community engagement.
Those interested in attending the Story Time events will be pleased to hear that registration is not required, making access as simple as showing up.
