A carjacking incident on Lafayette Street was briskly thwarted today, with the combined efforts of a victim and local shop owner leading to the quick detention of the suspect. According to the Nashville Police Department, at approximately 10 a.m. a woman sat in her red Kia Forte outside Lucky's Custom Wheels & Tires, awaiting brake servicing, when she was assaulted and forcibly removed from her vehicle by 27-year-old Cedric Taylor.
The victim rapidly sought refuge inside the shop, while Taylor grappled to quickly place the car in drive—a plan disrupted as the business's owner, responding to the scene, smashed the driver's side window, gaining entry to the car with the victim's consent. What ensued was a prompt extraction of the assailant from the vehicle, pushing him out the passenger side.
It was reported that the owner, along with another witness, managed to detain Taylor, ensuring he remained onsite to be apprehended by law enforcement. “Before Taylor could put the car in drive, the owner of the business ran to the Kia, busted the driver's side window with the victim's permission, and forced Taylor out through the passenger side,” as reported by the Nashville Police Department.
The assaulted woman was taken to the hospital, having suffered minor facial and arm injuries. As for Taylor, he now faces charges for carjacking. The collaboration between a terror-stricken community member and a decisive business owner serves to illustrate the effectiveness of collective action in curbing criminal activities within the community. A swift police response further worked to swiftly bring the situation to a close, with Taylor being detained until officers could formally take him into custody.
