Residents of Barrow County should prepare to adjust their routes as Freeman Brock Road is slated to shut down for paving starting Monday, July 22. As reported by the county's official announcement, the closure is a part of a comprehensive overhaul aimed to significantly improve the thoroughfare.
Chris Yancey, Barrow County Public Works Director, has shed light on the matter, explaining that "A full depth reclamation is more than your standard patching and paving." According to Yancey, "This process involves grinding up the old road, creating a new bed and paving a new road on top." The project was devised to not only better the daily commute but to also secure a safer path, particularly for families commuting to Bramlett Elementary School, as per the Barrow County's official announcement.
Detours are in place as Freeman Brock Road will remain inaccessible to through-traffic for an estimated five days—weather permitting. Commuters who typically pass through the area are advised to reroute via the nearby intersection of County Line Auburn and Dee Kennedy roads. With the school year fast approaching, the timing of the roadwork endeavors to minimize disruption to local traffic and school routines.
