Yesterday afternoon, a significant police response unfolded in Jamaica Plain following a report of a person shot on Centre Street. Based on information from the Boston Police Department, officers assigned to District E-13 quickly converged on the scene after calls and a shot spotter activation indicated gunfire. They found an adult male with a gunshot wound at approximately 2:38 PM, according to department statements. Efforts were made on the spot to provide medical assistance to the victim before he was rushed to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Following the initial emergency response, police operations disseminated a description of an individual observed to hastily leave the area on a green/black motorized scooter, navigating towards Columbus Avenue. Officers moved to swiftly canvass nearby neighborhoods. They eventually spotted a suspect, later identified as 25-year-old Christian Coloma from Roslindale, on Amory Street, and attempted to follow him as he rode on towards Union Avenue and Rockvale Circle.
The chase escalated when Coloma abandoned his scooter, opting instead to try and escape on foot. The officers engaged in a foot pursuit, finally managing to apprehend the suspect on Rockvale Circle. During the chase, officers recovered a firearm that appeared to have been discarded along the suspect's path of flight, undoubtedly solidifying their suspicion that they had caught the person responsible for the earlier shooting.
Coloma now faces charges including Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Refusal to Submit to a Police Officer. His arrest followed a tense confrontation and a pursuit as officers raced to ensure no further harm could come to the public. An arraignment in Roxbury District Court will be the next step to thoroughly address these serious charges.
