Round Rock has furthered its infrastructure development with the opening of a new stretch of Kenney Fort Boulevard. According to information provided by the City of Round Rock, this portion connects Old Settlers Boulevard to Joe DiMaggio Boulevard. Engineers have designed the six-lane road to ease the daily traffic snarls faced by east-side residents and to serve as an additional arterial route across town.
Adding an unexpected twist to municipal news, local YouTuber Jraider22 found inspiration from the opening of this roadway segment, composing an AI-powered country anthem named "Rolling on Kenney." In a recent interview, the YouTuber expressed, "A friend of mine…let me know last night that Kenny was open and it inspired such joy and excitement in me that I wrote this song." Despite its digital origins, residents and online fans alike have greeted the song with a warm reception for its celebration of the boulevard's "big wide lanes and bright white stripes."
Since 2013, the progressive expansion of Kenney Fort Boulevard has been a key focus for Round Rock, with completed sections like Segment 1, running from Joe DiMaggio Boulevard to Forest Creek Drive, setting this initiative in motion. However, with Segment 2 and 3's construction experiencing slower progress due to contractor issues, completion isn't slated until September. Once finished, Kenney Fort will extend from Forest Creek Drive to State Highway 45, providing further congestion relief.
The completion of Segment 4 can be partitioned into several subsections. Detailed on the City of Round Rock's website, Segment 4A was realized to bolster access to the Multipurpose Complex, while in a collaborative effort with Meritage Homes, Segment 4B was created to stretch from Old Settlers Boulevard to near Pecan Branch. An extenuation of this commitment, Segment 4C, linked Old Settlers Boulevard on the north side to Joe DiMaggio Boulevard on the south.
As Round Rock continues its roadwork evolution, future endeavors like the extension of Kenney Fort Boulevard from Old Settlers Boulevard to University Boulevard stand next in line for the city's Transportation Master Plan. Although still in the preliminary stages, this extensive project underlies the City's dedication to sustaining growth through carefully orchestrated infrastructure fortifications.
