On a routine patrol aimed at curtailing street level drug offenses, officers from the Roxbury District B-2 Drug Control Unit made a discovery in Nubian Square. According to the Boston Police Department's official reports, at around 1:44 p.m. last Saturday, two individuals were involved in what appeared to be a drug transaction at the corner of Roxbury St. and Washington St.
The police intervention led to the arrest of Samuel Rodriguez, a 42-year-old Everett resident. An investigation ensued which revealed Rodriguez harboring a loaded firearm inside a fanny pack, alongside what officers believe to be crack cocaine. Rodriguez faces multiple charges, including Unlawful Possession of a Firearm Subsequent Offense, bringing him before the Roxbury District Court soon.
Meanwhile, the second party involved in the incident has been identified though not named in the BPD release. This individual is set to be charged with Distribution of the a Class B Drug. Names aside, such events seem endemic of a larger narrative afflicting urban centers, where the fight against narcotics distribution is in a constant tug-of-war with the rights and lives it implicates.
The Boston Police Department continues their efforts to address street-level drug issues with patrols and interventions like the one witnessed in Nubian Square.
