On a poignant Friday night in Rutherford County, a memorial service filled not only with grief but with deep celebrations of young life took place for Asher Sullivan, a 10-year-old boy whose life was tragically cut short in a storm in May. The community convened, expressing their memories of joy and boundless laughter that Asher brought into their lives, as reported by WKRN.
"I go back to thinking about the tragedy of that day, but all of the blessings that came after," Jimmy Sullivan, Asher's father and Director of Schools for Rutherford County, told the congregation in his poignant remembrance during the Friday service. Declan, Asher’s brother, lauded him as "the best brother in the world," a sentiment that seemed to weave through each testimony offered in his honor, according to NewsChannel 5.
The ceremony held at New Vision Baptist Church in Murfreesboro was not just an occasion to mourn, but also a time to share heartfelt stories and videos showing Asher dancing, laughing, and fully embracing his short but impactful life, filled with travels to all 50 states, 48 national parks, and four countries. His mother Kaycee's pride in her son’s accomplishments was palpable as she shared memories before the assembly.
In the wake of Asher's passing, his spirit of giving continued; he became a miracle to others as an organ donor. Kaycee Sullivan recounted, we know if the decision would have been up to him, he would have without a doubt chosen to help others. Asher’s not only our hero but a hero to four other families. His legacy was apparent, by the hundreds who gathered and the many more who joined via livestream to witness the celebration of his life, as detailed by DNJ.com.
A GoFundMe has been established in Asher’s memory, encouraging donations in lieu of flowers, ensuring his love for life and his selfless spirit are honored by advancing causes important to him. Furthermore, the Sullivan family is working on establishing a charity in memory of both Asher and his brother Declan.
