Yesterday, Sacramento firefighters demonstrated their versatility beyond battling blazes by carrying out a swift water rescue of a deer from a local canal. According to ABC10, the incident occurred Just after 10 a.m. near Sunrise Boulevard and Jackson Road. The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District received a call that led to this unexpected mission.
The agile response involved fire district crews who worked diligently, yet were able to safely maneuver the animal from the canal waters they tooled with the nuances of what one would consider a delicate operation that is not often associated with the hard-hitting demands of firefighting, but the team ensured the deer was brought to shore unharmed. In a close collaboration with the Sacramento County Animal Care Services, the firefighters handed over the deer for further assessment and care, ensuring it had not sustained injuries during its unintended aquatic adventure.
A brief post by Metro Fire of Sacramento on X succinctly summed up the rescue, which was completed without injury to the animal or the rescue personnel involved. "Crews were able to safely secure the deer, bring it ashore and into a Sac County Animal Controls vehicle without injury," Metro Fire shared in the social media update, confirming the positive outcome.
Once deemed healthy and stable, the deer found itself embarking on a new journey—the fire officials said the deer was safely released at the Boys Ranch in Sacramento County a place where it can presumably roam more freely without the risks of urban waterways.
