The San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) and the North County Transit District (NCTD) are gearing up for over 200,000 fans headed to the 2024 Comic-Con by launching a limited-edition Comic-Con PRONTO card. Comic enthusiasts can now dodge the traffic and streamline their transport during the world's biggest comics and popular arts convention, as reported by the MTS website.
There's a clear demand for seamless transportation during the event, highlighted by last year's MTS Trolley ridership boom—an estimated 250,000 extra trips over the four days. NCTD also saw a 3.5 percent bump in ridership compared to the previous Comic-Con. Fans looking to nab an early transit pass can ensure a smoother experience, ensuring their focus remains on the festivities, not the freight of congestion.
The special-edition transit cards are available for pre-order from July 8 through July 15 exclusively on the PRONTO website and over the phone. Those missing the preorder window can purchase the commemorative cards, starting July 23 up until July 28, at the MTS Transit Store, NCTD Customer Service Centers, and selected Trolley and COASTER station ticket machines. The cards, which require a one-time $2 card fee, must be purchased alongside an SDCC transit pass and will take five to seven business days to ship.
Discounted day passes for MTS Trolleys and buses are also part of the mix, with two-, three-, four-, and five-day SDCC pass options available for purchase on the PRONTO mobile app, website, and phone starting July 8. For COASTER users, a special 5-pack offers five days of rides for the price of three, a 40 percent savings applicable for a month from purchase. These passes, which also allow for tap-and-ride ease, bring an element of financial reprieve to an otherwise expensive, albeit electrifying, weekend.
Riders under 18 with a Youth PRONTO card or app account can use the Youth Opportunity Pass for free rides. All passengers must tap their fare on a platform validator before boarding.
